A Car Club named the Lakes Area Crusiers was formed in 1993. the lakes area connotation was chosen because the original members lived in and around Jasper, Texas which is located near Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend Reservoirs. Unfortunately, the orginal club was short lived. When it was disbanded in 1994, all monies in the treasury were donated to the Boy's & Girl's club of Jasper. The current club was reconstituted in 1998 by several of the original members. Alvin Prewitt was elected President in 1998 and was re-elected every year since until he decided to step down in 2011.
The club operates under a constitution and bylaws that may be amended at a regular meeting by two-thirds vote of members present and voting, providing that notice of the proposed amendment was given at the previous meeting. the club is open to any person of good character, intereested in special interest car activities. In 2001, the club helds its first "Rod Run." the event has been held every year since normally in the month of November. The event has grown to be one of the best in the region, boasting nearly 200 vehicles. Proceeds from the "Rod Run" are donated to the Lakes Area Hospice, the club's chosen charity. To date the Lakes area Cruisers have donated in excess of $80,000..
